Danube Dragons shut out Prague Black Panthers to stay unbeaten in Austrian Football League
In a dominant performance, the Danube Dragons (3-0) defeated the Prague Black Panthers (2-1) 24-0, solidifying their position as the sole leaders of the Austrian Football League. The Dragons showcased their strength in a game that left the Black Panthers with little chance to respond.
Dragons take control early
The atmosphere at Donaufeld sports field was electric, with 1,200 fans witnessing the clash of two undefeated teams. The Dragons wasted no time, as quarterback Walter Kuhlenkamp connected with receiver Samuel Imarhiagbe for a touchdown in the first quarter, putting the home team ahead 7-0. The Dragons’ defense quickly made its mark, stifling the Black Panthers’ offense throughout the game.
Second half dominance
After a scoreless second quarter, the Dragons extended their lead with a field goal from Marcel Stefanek and a rushing touchdown by Michael Zeiler, making it 17-0. In the final period, receiver Uzay Nafile sealed the victory with another touchdown, bringing the score to 24-0.
Defensively, Jan Gebhardt and Julian Meidl shone with two interceptions each, showcasing the Dragons’ defensive prowess.
Dragons head coach Michael Hönig praised his team’s focus and preparation, while Black Panthers head coach Darius Saint-Robinson acknowledged the need for improvement. The Dragons will look to maintain their momentum as they continue their season.
