Denmark: Triangle Razorbacks headed back to Mermaid Bowl

The Triangle Razorbacks are returning the the Danish championship game, Mermaid Bowl XXX, after eking out a tough 16-14 semifinal win over the Aarhus Tigers in Aarhus, Denmark this past weekend.

Veteran running back Geoffrey Lewis led the way for the Razorbacks, who won the title in both 2016 and 2015. Lewis scored both touchdowns while the defense caused an intentional grounding in the end zone adding the decisive two points.

However, it was the Tigers who opened the scoring as defensive back Ricky Stevens picked off a pass from Triangle starting quarterback Jairus Moll returning it 17 yards for a touchdown.

The Razorbacks got on the scoreboard in the second quarter as Aarhus quarterback Jakob Karkov, standing in his own end zone, inexplicably tossed the ball with no receiver anywhere in sight and was flagged for intentional grounding resulting in a two-point safety.

With the Tigers leading 7-2, Lewis went to work, capping a long drive by barging his way into the end zone from the five yard line giving the Razorbacks a 9-7 lead which they took into the halftime break.

Triangle came out strong in the third quarter as Lewis added another touchdown, this time getting around the corner and displaying amazing footwork and balance, scoring on a 17 yard run to increase the lead to 16-7.

Still in the third quarter, Karkov atoned for his earlier mistake, tossing a seven yard touchdown pass to Frederik Daugaard to close the gap to 16-14.

The Tigers came no closer though as both defenses rose up in the final quarter of play allowing no points.

With the win, the seven-time Danish champion Razorbacks advance to the Mermaid Bowl for the 11th time where they will face the defending champion Copenhagen Towers, who will also be seeking their eighth Danish title.
