ELF: Rhein Fire sign former CFL and Stony Brook cornerback TJ Morrison

The Rhein Fire of the European League of Football have added their four and final American import in the former Stony Brook (NCAA DI FCS) standout and CFL and NFL prospect TJ Morrison. Morrison join former San Franciso 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula defense, as he is the newest in a long list of talent flocking to Düsseldorf.

The newest member of the Rhein Fire most recently played for Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL spending the pre-season with the team. Prior to that in 2021, Morrison spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders of the NFL.

During his college days, The 5’9″, 195 pound cornerback was a five-year member of the Stony Brook (NCAA DI FCS) football program and played in 40 games. Over the course of his collegiate career, he recorded 109 tackles (85 solo, 24 assists), five tackles for loss, 18 pass breakups, two interceptions, one sack, and one fumble recovery.

As a senior during the 2020-21 season, he was named a team captain, selected to the Phil Steele Preseason All-CAA Second Team, earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, and was a National Football Foundation William V. Campbell Trophy nominee. Morrison put together a standout season in 2019 as he registered 40 tackles (31 solo, nine assists), seven pass breakups, one interception, and one fumble recovery. He concluded the season with a career-high 10 tackles against Albany on November 23.

In 2018, Morrison was named to the All-CAA Third Team after racking up a career-high 42 tackles (34 solo, eight assists). His lone interception of that season was returned for a 35-yard touchdown in the win over New Hampshire on October 13, 2018.

Morrison willl join ELF-All Star and veteran American import Omari Williams in what could be an excellent defensive back field for the Rhein Fire. Jim Tomsula’s back end now includes former Abilene Christian (NCAA DI FCS) safety Daniel Duah and veterans Till Jansen, Richard Grooten, Benjamin Barnes, and the aforementioned Americans.

Morrison is the latest signing in what has been an exciting off-season for the Rhein Fire as Jim Tomsula and the management have already signed up a laundry list of the top available players in Europe including NFL IPP prospects Lino SchroeterFlamur SimonLeiander WeigandAlejandro Fernandez, as well as All-Star offensive linemen Joachim Christensen, Yasir Raji, and maybe the biggest of all, last year’s top running back in the ELF in Brit Glen Toonga.
