ELF: Week 2 kicks off with 8 great matchups

Week 2 of the 2024 European League of Football will see 16 of 17 teams in action, with only the Helvetic Mercenaries on a bye.

Let’s take a look at the eight games, which include several intriguing matchups.

Stuttgart Surge @ Wroclaw Panthers

In a rematch of last season’s wild card matchup, the Surge and Panthers meet again in a battle of undefeated teams.  Both of these squads looked great against quality opponents on big stages to open the season, so we shall see which one of them can keep it up in week 2.

Barcelona Dragons @ Madrid Bravos

In the first ever game in Madrid Bravos history, the Barcelona Dragons come to town to square off with their new Spanish foes.  The Dragons eked out a road win in Switzerland last week and are looking to move to 2-0 against a team making its franchise debut.  The Bravos were commended for their roster construction, now let’s see how they look on the field.

Raiders Tirol @ Vienna Vikings

In another matchup between teams of the same country, the Raiders Tirol travel to Vienna to take on the Vikings.  Each team is 1-0 and looked impressive last week, albeit against weak opponents.  The Vikings are 4-0 against the Raiders in the ELF. Can the Raiders stop this skid and pull off the upset?

Munich Ravens @ Milano Seamen

These teams scored a combined five points last week, so hopefully they will provide more offense than that on Saturday.  The Ravens had a lot of hype coming into the season but were flat against the Surge in week 1.  They will be expected to put up a much better performance against a weaker Milano team.

Prague Lions @ Berlin Thunder

The Lions travel to Berlin to face the Thunder in a matchup of winless teams.  Berlin lost a shootout in Wroclaw, while Prague was unable to hang with the Hamburg Sea Devils at home.  One of these teams will pick up their first win of the season on Sunday.

Paris Musketeers @ Hamburg Sea Devils

The Musketeers will play their first game of their second season as they face the Sea Devils in Bremen.  After starting slow last year in their debut season, Paris finished strong down the stretch.  We will see if they can build off that momentum here in 2024.

Fehervar Enthroners @ Cologne Centurions

Both of these teams played similar games last week, as they hosted strong opponents and kept it close for a while before fading away.  After lackluster seasons last year, these teams are looking to get back on track with an early win this year.

Rhein Fire @ Frankfurt Galaxy

The Frankfurt Galaxy play their first game of the year on Sunday against last year’s undefeated champions in the Rhein Fire.  Frankfurt made some big additions in the offseason, including quarterback Luke Zahradka, running back Sandro Platzgummer, and receiver Markell Castle.  They’ll look to make their mark against the league’s top team.
