Finland: Kuopio Steelers continue their dominance over the Seinäjoki Crocodiles

This past weekend in Finland’s Maple League, in what could be a Maple Bowl preview, the reigning champion Kuopio Steelers extended their unbeaten record to 10 games with a solid 27-8 win over the second place Seinäjoki Crocodiles (7-3) to further distance themselves from the rest of the pack.

The Steelers started the game with unmatched energy and jumped out to 13-0 lead thanks to their electric run game. The Crocodiles managed to find the end zone before halftime to close their deficit to 13-6, but their offensive production for the day would be halted there. The second half belonged to the Steelers with the Finnish powerhouse closing out the game strong to earn the convincing win.

The Steelers undeniable control over this game was due to their forceful presence on the ground with running back Le’Anthony Reasnover rushing for 161 yards to go along with four touchdowns. The Crocodiles’ defense had no answer as Reasnover averaged seven yards a carry and guided his team to the end zone with ease.

The contest wasn’t a complete failure for the Crocodiles however, as quarterback Zach Whitehead was able to find young receiver Janne Särkelä for a 27 yard touchdown pass. The defense also showed flashes of talent with Aatu Tuokko stealing an interception and American playmaker Emmit Gooden forcing a safety with a strong tackle in the backfield.

With the Maple League regular season inching towards its end, expect a potential rematch between these two teams in the playoffs.
