Finland: Two-time champion Christian Arrambide returning to Porvoon Butchers for 2027

Quarterback Christian Arrambide is returning to the Porvoon Butchers for the 2027 Finnish Maple League season after winning championships in consecutive years with two different European teams.

The 26-year-old native of Memphis, Tennessee, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 214 pounds, spent the 2026 season with the Krefeld Ravens, helping the German Football League 2 (GFL2) club capture the championship following an undefeated regular season. A year earlier, he guided the Butchers to a perfect 12–0 campaign and the 2025 Finnish national title.

His return comes after Porvoo reached the Maple Bowl again in 2026 but lost to the Seinäjoki Crocodiles.

Another championship season in Germany

Arrambide joined the Krefeld Ravens for the 2026 GFL2 season and continued the impressive production he had established during his first two years in Europe.

He completed 139 of 207 passes for 2,528 yards and 34 touchdowns against just six interceptions during the regular season. He connected on 67% of his attempts, averaged 12.2 yards per pass and posted a passer rating of 218.1.

He also contributed on the ground, rushing for 224 net yards and four touchdowns on 40 carries.

The Ravens dominated the GFL2 North, finishing 10–0 while outscoring opponents 499–168.

In the playoffs, Krefeld defeated the Albershausen Crusaders 42–14 in the semifinals before beating the Rostock Griffins 24–14 in the championship game on September 12.

Across those two postseason games, Arrambide completed 22 of 43 passes for 318 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He added 99 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

Including the playoffs, he finished his German campaign with 2,846 passing yards, 35 touchdown passes and 323 net rushing yards.

Established himself as a star in Finland

Arrambide began his European career with the Seinäjoki Crocodiles in 2024, throwing for 2,938 yards and 32 touchdowns against nine interceptions. He also rushed for 431 yards and five touchdowns.

His performance earned him Maple League Offensive Player of the Year honors and selection to the league’s All-Star team.

He moved to the Porvoon Butchers in 2025 and delivered another outstanding season, completing 129 of 200 passes for 2,207 yards and 29 touchdowns against just four interceptions in 10 regular-season games.

His 64.5% completion rate and 11 yards per attempt helped power Porvoo through an unbeaten season, while his individual performances earned him the Maple League Player of the Year award.

Record-setting performance in Maple Bowl XLVI

Arrambide capped his 2025 season with a record-breaking performance against his former team in Maple Bowl XLVI at Bolt Arena in Helsinki.

He threw a championship-game record six touchdown passes as the Butchers defeated the Seinäjoki Crocodiles 52–21, completing a perfect 12–0 season and capturing the club’s eighth national championship.

Arrambide was named the game’s MVP.

His success in Finland and Germany has produced 7,991 passing yards and 96 touchdown passes across three European seasons, counting his 2024 and 2025 Finnish regular-season figures and his 2026 German regular-season and playoff totals.

College career at Kentucky Wesleyan

Before heading overseas, Arrambide played three seasons at Kentucky Wesleyan College from 2021 through 2023.

He appeared in 28 games for the Panthers, completing 415 of 771 passes for 5,446 yards and 41 touchdowns against 31 interceptions.

His most productive college season came in 2023, when he threw for 2,262 yards and 16 touchdowns in 10 games.

Returning to familiar surroundings

Arrambide expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Porvoo in the club’s announcement.

“I am blessed to be back with the Butchers family,” he said. “I want to thank the management and my brothers for welcoming me back, and the Lord Jesus for blessing me with this opportunity to play in Finland again.”

He also had a message for the team’s supporters.

“To the supporters: come out to every game and bring that same pride and energy I remember from every game day. I can’t wait to see and hear you all again.”

For the Butchers, the signing reunites them with the quarterback who directed their undefeated 2025 championship campaign. After losing the 2026 title game to the Crocodiles, Porvoon will enter the 2027 season with an experienced, proven winner returning to lead its offense.

For Arrambide, it presents an opportunity to pursue a third consecutive European championship after winning titles in two countries.
