Firenze continues to dominate Italian Football League standings

With only a couple of games remaining in the 2026 Italian Football League regular season , the Firenze Guelfi continue to power through opponents after handing the Lazio Marines a 42-7 beating.

The Legnano Frogs were idle but at 5-1 stay in 2nd, but face a crucial matchup against Firenze May 24. The Parma Panthers (4-2) lost to the Torino Giaguari (5-3) but still remain in 3rd ahead of the Giaguari who finished their season. Based on their strength of schedule, the Panthers could possibly overtake Legnano and grab 2nd earning a bye into the semifinals. They would need to defeat the Frogs though in the final game of the season.

The playoffs open with the wild card round on the weekend of June 13/14, featuring #3 facing #6 and #4 playing #5.

1. Firenze Guelfi – 6-0

The Guelfi whipped the Marines and with the best offense and defense in the IFL, they have won six in a row this year and 18 consecutive since the end of the 2024 season. They are averaging 47 points a game while they giving up an average of just 15.

2. Legnano Frogs – 5-1

The Frogs stay in 2nd despite being idle this past weekend. They have a single loss, 21-14 to the Ancona Dolphins a month ago. The decider for Legnano comes on May 24 against Firenze.

3. Parma Panthers – 4-2

In a minor upset, the Panthers fell 23-21 to the Torino Giaguari, hurting their chances of finishing 2nd and getting a bye into the semifinal round. They are the only team in the top four who has given up more points than they have scored which does not bode well in battling for playoff positioning.

4. Torino Giaguari – 5-3

In a bizarre scheduling scenario, the Giaguari have finished up their regular season and will not see action again until the Wild Card playoff weekend of June 13/14. Torino upset the Panthers this past weekend solidifying their berth in the wild card playoffs.

5. Ancona Dolphins – 3-3

Ancona were idle this past weekend and have not played a game since their 51-17 loss to the Guelfi on May 2. They had won three straight prior to that loss. They have two games left on their schedule, both winnable, and could snag home field in the wild card round.

6. Ferrara Aquile – 2-4

The Aquile need to win at least one of the final two games to be assured of a wild card playoff spot, or hope that the Marines lose . Losers of four in a row after opening the season with two straight wins, the Aquile still have a mathematical chance to make the playoffs. However, they need to beat both the Dolphins and the Rhinos to have a chance.

7. Lazio Marines – 2-5

The Marines were soundly beaten by Firenze this past weekend, making their chances of qualifying for the wild card playoffs almost impossible. They would need to beat the Panthers on May 24 and hope that the Aquile lose their final two games, against the Dolphins and Rhinos.

8. Bologna Warriors – 1-4

The Warriors did not play this past weekend and in their last game three weeks ago they knocked off the Milano Rhinos 56-42 in a minor upset which pulled them out of the cellar. However, they now face Parma and Firenze to wind up the season. They will at least finish the season with that lone win.

9. Milano Rhinos – 0-6

Milano, who have been idle since their May 3 loss to the Marines, remain a mystery. They were within minutes   of knocking off the Parma Panthers to open the season in a quadruple overtime thriller. Since then, they have been on a downward spiral which culminated with an upset loss to Bologna.

They still have a chance to climb out of the cellar however with games against the Dolphins (May 23) and the Aquile (May 30) but it won’t be easy.
