France: Marseille Blue Stars secure gritty win over Grenoble Centaures
In a hard-fought battle in the French D1 Elite league, the Marseille Blue Stars (5-2) defeated the Grenoble Centaures (0-6-1) 16-2. The Centaures were desperate for their first win of the season, but the Blue Stars’ defense proved too much to handle.
Defensive struggle in the first half
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, with neither squad able to find the end zone. The only points came from a safety by Grenoble after a botched snap on a Marseille punt. The Blue Stars’ kicker was forced to fall on the ball in his own end zone, giving the Centaures a surprising 2-0 lead at halftime. It was a frustrating first half for both offenses, as they failed to capitalize on opportunities.
Marseille finds their rhythm
With their backs against the wall, the Blue Stars finally found their offensive groove in the second half. After 30 minutes of scoreless play, quarterback Hadrien Lynda connected with Ntoutoume for a touchdown, putting Marseille ahead 7-2. The Blue Stars extended their lead shortly after with a safety, followed by a rushing touchdown from Lucas Poutier, making it 16-2.
Despite the win, Marseille’s offense still struggled at times, but they climbed to second place in the Southern Conference standings. For Grenoble, the search for their first victory continues as they remain winless this season.
