Legnano Frogs rally past Marines in Italian Football League thriller

The Legnano Frogs (2-0) overcame a ten-point halftime deficit to secure a hard-fought 29-24 victory over the Lazio Marines (0-3) in a tense Italian Football League contest marked by momentum swings and critical turnovers.

Marines control first half
Lazio came out with impressive physicality, establishing an early 17-7 lead by dominating both lines of scrimmage. Their defense consistently pressured Legnano quarterback Josh Taylor while their offense efficiently moved the ball, capitalizing on Frogs’ mistakes to build what seemed like a commanding advantage heading into halftime.

Second half turnaround
The Frogs emerged from the break transformed, immediately establishing their ground game. Running backs Luke Caliendo and Alessandro Brovelli both found the end zone with rushing touchdowns, while the defense tightened considerably. The momentum fully shifted when Taylor added another rushing score followed by a successful two-point conversion to Matteo Rai, completing the comeback.

Defense seals victory
Despite Lazio answering with a late touchdown pass to Michele Costa, the Frogs’ defense made critical stops when it mattered most. Key interceptions by Filippo Tamburrino and Kevin Khay, plus a recovered fumble, ultimately proved decisive as Legnano managed the final minutes effectively to preserve their narrow road victory and remain unbeaten.

While the Frogs showed resilience in battling back, Coach Cody Kent acknowledged significant areas for improvement including red zone efficiency and limiting turnovers. For the Marines, it represented another close loss despite showing they can compete with the league’s better teams.
