German Football League offensive stats show wide distribution at season’s midpoint

The German Football League has hit midseason with only six weeks left of the 2023 regular season and there are some surprises in terms of individual offensive stats leaders.

Interestingly, the team with the leading passer, the Allgäu Comets, does not have a single receiver in the top 5. In fact, broken down, there is a wide distribution among the teams. The Potsdam Royals and Ingolstadt Dukes have the most players on the lists with three apiece followed by the Dresden Monarchs with two. After that, seven teams share the remaining spots: the Comets, Berlin Adler, Berlin Rebels, Straubing Spiders, Ravensburg Razorbacks, Braunschweig New Yorker Lions and Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns have one representative each. Five teams have no players on the lists: Munich Cowboys, Marburg Mercenaries, Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, Paderborn Dolphins and, surprisingly, the #2 team in the GFL South, the Saarland Hurricanes.

Passing

Allgäu Comets QB Javarian Smith leads all quarterbacks in passing yardage with 1,936 in six games or an average of 322.7 yards per game. Following him in 2nd is Steven Duncan of the Dresden Monarchs who has 1,889 and a league leading 26 TD passes. Behind him in 3rd is Ingolstadt Dukes QB Matthew Weimer with 1,816 while Potsdam Royals signal caller Jaylon Henderson is 4th with 1,751 and Zach Cavanaugh of the Berlin Adler is 5th with 1,523 yards.

Rushing

Braunschweig New Yorker Lions RB D’wayne Obi has rushed for 709 yards and 7 TDs to lead the GFL in both categories while Kamal Cass of the Straubing Spiders trails in 2nd with 569 yards and 4 TDs. A pairGennadiy Adams of the Potsdam Royals is 3rd with 450 yards while Lennies McFerren of the Ravensburg Razorbacks is 4th with 437 and Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns RB Mike Gentili is 5th after rushing for 425 yards.

Receiving

Dresden Monarchs WR Austin Mitchell leads all receivers with 850 yards receiving and a league-leading 13 receiving TDs. Gabriel Boccella of the Ingolstadt Dukes is 2nd with 718 yards while Berlin Rebels WR Bryce Goggin is 3rd with 691 yards. Simon Fons of the Potsdam Royals is not far behind in 4th with 677 yards while Ingolstadt Dukes WR Sven Beyrich is the 5th leading receiver in the GFL with 622 yards.
