Germany: Kiel Baltic Hurricanes sign Indianapolis QB Jake Purichia

The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes have announced the signing of Jake Purichia (University of Indianapolis Greyhounds, NCAA Div. II) as their quarterback for the 2019 German Football League season.

Purichia (pronounced “puh-REE-kah”), a 6′, 215 lb 23-year-old and native of Indianapolis, Indiana was one of the top quarterbacks in Division II football throughout his career. He became just the eighth player in Indianapolis Greyhounds history to be named a candidate for the Harlan Hill Award, given annually to the top player in Division II football. He was voted GLVC (Great Lakes Velley Conference) Offensive Player of the Year by the league’s coaches, as well as a unanimous All-GLVC First Team selection.

Purichia led the Greyhounds to their first undefeated regular season since 1953. Indianapolis also captured the GLVC title and an NCAA DII playoff berth. He threw for 2,738 yards, 29 touchdowns and just four interceptions and set the single-season program record for passing efficiency (186.5), good for second in Division II in 2017 and 13th in the history of DII football.

Purichia is looking forward to his new career with the Hurricanes in Germany:

“I’m looking forward to coming to Kiel and starting with the other guys. I wanted to continue my football career and to come to Kiel is a great opportunity. The contact was very positive from the beginning and felt good. I’m curious and want to do my best for a successful season.”

Kiel head coach Timo Zorn:

“It was important to us to find the right player who suits us and who is a leader both in the field and off the field. When we first had contact with Jake, we immediately realized that he was the perfect man. He brings a lot of experience as a starter and team captain and has played a very successful college career leading the team into Division II playoffs. He throws a very precise ball and makes few mistakes. Moreover, he is very good on his feet. He meets all the criteria we were looking for.”

Purichia will arrive in Kiel in early April. The Hurricanes open their 2019 GFL season at home on May 11 against the Dresden Monarchs.
