Germany: Ravensburg Razorbacks add Italian coach Sergio Coretti to staff for 2026 season
The Ravensburg Razorbacks, fresh off a first-place finish in the GFL South with an 8-4 record and a narrow 31-24 semifinal loss to the Dresden Monarchs, have made a significant addition to their coaching staff by bringing in Italian coach Sergio Coretti for the 2026 German Football League season. Coretti joins the organization after most recently serving as head coach and defensive coordinator for Italy’s Bergamo Lions, where he built an impressive resume since 2014.
Proven winner from Italy
Coretti brings championship experience to Ravensburg, having led the Bergamo Lions men’s team to an Italian second-division title and promotion in 2023 while serving as both head coach and defensive coordinator. His success extends to the international stage where he has been part of the Italian national team coaching staff since 2024, helping guide the “Blue Team” to qualification for the 2025 IFAF European Championship Final Four and a third-place finish that included a victory over Germany in the bronze medal game.
Building on semifinal success
The Razorbacks are clearly looking to take the next step after their impressive 2025 campaign that saw them reach the GFL semifinals. Coretti’s defensive expertise should help strengthen a unit that nearly upset the powerful Dresden Monarchs, falling by just one touchdown in the playoff matchup.
International development
The Italian coach has actively sought to expand his football knowledge through international opportunities, including spending time as a “ghost coach” at Sacramento State University and Stanford University during their 2024 fall camps. These experiences provided valuable insights into American college football programs and methodologies that he can now bring to the Razorbacks organization.
With his combination of technical expertise and proven track record, Coretti will take over responsibility for coaching the Ravensburg defensive backs. His hiring signals the Razorbacks’ commitment to building on their 2025 success and making another deep playoff run in the competitive GFL landscape.
