Germany: Saarland Hurricanes add playmaker Joshua Youngblood for 2026 season
The Saarland Hurricanes, looking to improve after a 4-8 season that left them out of the 2025 German Football League playoffs, have signed American wide receiver Joshua Youngblood, adding speed and versatility to their passing attack.
Youngblood’s football journey
The 5’10”, 185-pound Tampa native brings a diverse background to the Hurricanes. He most recently played for the Helsinki Wolverines in Finland, where he recorded 21 receptions for 338 yards and 4 touchdowns during the 2025 season. Before heading to Europe, Youngblood played at multiple NCAA Division I programs, including Kansas State, Rutgers, and Delaware. As a true freshman at Kansas State, he made an immediate impact as a dynamic return specialist, earning First Team All-Big 12 honors and Conference Special Teams Player of the Year after returning three kickoffs for touchdowns.
What he brings to Saarland
Youngblood’s speed and experience as both a receiver and returner offer the Hurricanes a multidimensional weapon. For a team that finished third in the GFL South in receiving yards (3,216) but ended with a losing record, his big-play ability could provide a needed spark. His proven kick return skills also add value to Saarland’s special teams—an area where game-changing plays can swing tight contests.
