Germany – Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns re-sign All-American RB John Santiago

The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns have announced that All American running back John Santiago from the University of North Dakota, has been re-signed for the 2022 season.

Santiago, a 5’9″, 190 pound, 25-year-old was the leading rusher for the Unicorns who were German Football League runner ups, and Central European Football League champions in 2021. In the shortened eight-game GFL season, Santiago rushed for 615 yards and 12 touchdowns while catching nine passes for 119 yards and another score. The versatile running back also threw a touchdown pass during the season.

The Andover, Minnesota native was a three-time All American running back for the University of North Dakota (NCAA Div. I, FCS). In his four years (2015-2018), Santiago rushed for 3,722 yards and 29 touchdowns while accumulating 6,500 all-purpose yards. In his freshman season (2015), he set UND’s Division I record for rushing (1,459) and all-purpose yards (2,159).

Santiago attended Winnipeg Blue Bombers training camp in 2019 and had signed with the Seattle Dragons in the XFL in 2020 before the season was canceled.
