GFL: Braunschweig New Yorker Lions sign former D1 QB Jakob Parks

The New Yorker Lions of the German Football League has added former division one quarterback Jakob Parks.

The Lion’s new quarterback is a multi-sport athlete coming off of a strong final collegiate season.

The 6’3″, 210-pound passer recently completed his senior season at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse (NCAA D3). The transfer quarterback led the Eagles to the playoffs with a 9-3 record for the first time in 15 years. The 23-year-old Parks threw for 2,394 yards, 26 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. Prior to transferring to Wisconsin, the St. Petersburg, Florida native spent four seasons at the University of South Dakota (NCAA D1 FCS) where he saw limited action.

During his time at Clearwater Catholic High School, Parks passed for 3,531 yards and 41 touchdowns against five interceptions as a two-year starter. The athletic signal-caller also played volleyball and basketball. As a beach volleyball player Parks trained with the Olympic team and competed for the national title as a teenager.

Parks will take over under center for a Lions team looking to become title contenders again after an uncharacteristically poor 5-6 season. Head Coach Troy Tomlin has already brought two new receivers for Parks in Italian talent Tamsir Seck and former Portland State (NCAA D1 FCS) standout Isaiah Woods.
