Italy: Defending champion Firenze Guelfi overpower Torino Giaguari in IFL showdown

The defending champion Firenze Guelfi (1–0) opened their Italian Football League title defense with a convincing 46–21 road victory over the Torino Giaguari (0–1), using a dominant second-half performance to break open what had been a competitive game through three quarters.

Giaguari show early fight
Torino started strong, answering Firenze’s opening touchdown with a score of their own to take a surprising 7–6 lead. Running back Ethan Greenfield proved explosive throughout the first half, consistently challenging the Guelfi defense and helping keep the game close as Firenze built a 20–7 advantage. The Giaguari offense, led by rookie quarterback Riccardo Duranti in his first IFL start, showed promise and resilience against the league’s top team.

Turning point shifts momentum
The game turned decisively in the third quarter when a fumble by Duranti ultimately gave Firenze possession in decent scoring position. The Guelfi capitalized marching down the field with quarterback Andrea Fimiani finding Eystin Salum for a 23 yard score, stretching their lead to 33–21 and seizing control of the game’s momentum. Though Greenfield appeared to score again early in the fourth quarter, the touchdown was nullified by penalty, effectively ending Torino’s comeback hopes.

Champions depth prevails
Firenze’s offensive versatility proved overwhelming in the final quarter, with Fimiani efficiently directing scoring drives both through the air and on the ground. The Guelfi scored on nearly every possession, showcasing the depth and execution that made them champions. While Torino demonstrated competitive spirit, the defending champions’ consistency and big-play ability ultimately proved too much to overcome.
