Japan: Obic Seagulls edge Panasonic Impulse in X-League Premier nail-biter

In a thrilling opener for the X-League Premier, the Obic Seagulls (1-0) narrowly defeated the Panasonic Impulse (0-1) 21-20. This matchup was a rematch of last season’s Rice Bowl which Panasonic won, and it did not disappoint.

Fast start for Obic

The game kicked off with a bang as Obic took an early lead. Quarterback Pierce Holly connected with new wide receiver Tay Cunningham for a stunning 79-yard touchdown pass. However, Panasonic quickly found their rhythm, with quarterback Hiromitsu Kobayashi leading the charge. Touchdowns from running back Mitchell, along with scores from Victor Jamaut and Genmei Tachikawa, helped the Impulse build a 20-6 lead by halftime.

Seagulls soar back in the second half

The second half saw Obic rally back, starting with a touchdown run from running back Hayasuke Shimada. A field goal followed, and with just five minutes left in the fourth quarter, Shimada kicked a 27-yard field goal to complete the comeback.

This victory marked a significant loss for Panasonic, ending their regular-season winning streak that dated back to November 2020.
