France: La Courneuve Flash sign Canadian WR Ben von Jagow

Canadian native and European football veteran, Ben von Jagow will be spending the 2023 season with the 2022 French champions, the La Courneuve Flash.

The Flash are coming off a terrific 9-1 season in the French D1 Elite Championship League that ended with them capturing their 12th championship in their team’s history. von Jagow, now heading into his 7th season in Europe will look to add some depth and veteran leadership to the squad.

The seasoned Canadian signal caller has had quite the tour of Europe during his time playing for teams in many different leagues and countries. The 6’3″, 200-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario spent the 2022 season in the Austrian Football League with the Prague Black Panthers. He helped lead the team to a semifinal berth. However, they would lose in a hard-fought battle to the Vienna Vikings 50-44. The veteran pass catcher was one of the AFL’s top receivers putting up 66 catches for 922 yards and 13 touchdowns.

In 2020, von Jagow would join the reigning and back-to back Swedish champion Stockholm Mean Machines during a shortened COVID season. At the end of the unusual fall season, Jagow finished with 238 yards and three touchdowns through five games, putting him on the top 5 in the regular season receiving yard list.

In 2019, he played in Denmark for the Triangle Razorbacks, helping the team capture the Danish title. The year prior in 2018 he spent time with the Hildesheim Invaders in the German Football League, where he led the team in receptions with 47 and yards with 524.

He got his start in Europe playing in Spain for the Murcia Cobras in 2017, helping them reach the Spanish semifinals in their inaugural season in Spain’s top league. While they did not make it to the championship final, they put up a tough fight against the defending champion Badalona Dracs.

Besides being a talent that has made his way through Europe, von Jagow is a writer and has authored two articles for American Football International, “How to Find a Team for the 2018 Season” and “Not that kind of football”.
