Italy: Legnano Frogs edge Torino Giaguari 28-21 in Thrilling Matchup

In a hard-fought contest, the Legnano Frogs (5-1) defeated the Torino Giaguari (4-3) 28-21 at the Magnago Sports Center in Week 9 of the Italian Football League.

The Frogs bounced back from a disappointing loss to Ancona a week ago with a strong performance in front of their home crowd.

Giaguari Start Strong

The Giaguari took control early on as Luciano Giuliani scored two touchdowns, both successfully converted, giving the visitors a commanding 14-0 lead. The Frogs struggled to find their offensive rhythm in the first half, but just before halftime, they managed to respond. Quarterback Josh Taylor connected with Luke Caliendo for a touchdown, and Lorenzo Masini added the extra point, bringing the score to 14-7 at the break.

Frogs Rally in the Second Half

The second half saw a dramatic shift in momentum. The Frogs‘ defense, already strong in the first half, intensified their efforts. Simone Perego made a crucial interception, setting up another touchdown by Caliendo, which tied the game at 14-14 after Masini’s conversion.

As the game progressed, Filippo Tamburrino forced a fumble, allowing Matteo Mozzanica to score on a pass from Taylor, putting the Frogs ahead 21-14. In the final minutes, Andrea Posté added another touchdown, extending the lead to 28-14. Although Cameron Colangelo scored a late touchdown for the Giaguari, it wasn’t enough to change the outcome, and the game ended 28-21 in favor of Legnano.

Coaches’ Reflections

After the game, Cody Kent, head coach of the Frogs, praised his team’s defensive performance and their ability to overcome a slow start. He noted the importance of discipline and execution in their offensive strategy. For the Giaguari, it was another narrow defeat despite a competitive effort, leaving them looking for answers as they move forward in the season.
