The Danube Dragons, Austrian Football League semifinalists in 2017, open their 2018 season hosting the Ljubljana Silverhawks from Slovenia, who also reached the semifinals last season.

The two teams faced each other only once in 2017 with Ljubljana coming out on top in a thriller, 28-27.

The Dragons enter the season with a new quarterback, Chad Jeffries. Jeffries helped the Marburg Mercenaries return to respectability in the German Footballl League in 2017 throwing for 3,045 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for another 305 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games. He was the second leading passer in the GFL in terms of average passing yards per game with 276.8.
