LIVESTREAM CEFL Bowl XX: Calanda Broncos vs Thonon Black Panthers, June 27, 19:00 CET (7 pm, 1 pm ET)
The Central European Football League tournament returns this weekend as the defending champion Thonon Black Panthers host the Calanda Broncos in CEFL Bowl XX at Stade Joseph-Moynat in Thonon-les-Bains. It is a rematch of last year’s final, when Thonon claimed its first CEFL title, while the Broncos will be chasing their first European crown after falling short in each of their previous championship appearances. With two of Europe’s most complete teams meeting once again, another memorable final appears to be on the horizon.
A familiar championship matchup
There were few surprises in this year’s tournament as both clubs lived up to their preseason billing. As top seeds, each began its CEFL campaign in the quarterfinals before winning twice to reach the championship game.
The Black Panthers opened with a dominant 55-8 victory over the Manchester Titans before surviving a thrilling 45-41 semifinal against the Firenze Guelfi. Meanwhile, the Broncos defeated the Badalona Dracs 48-24 before grinding out a 22-10 victory over the Warsaw Eagles to book another trip to the final.

Explosive offenses collide
Both teams bring plenty of firepower.
For Thonon, quarterback Mateo Renteria has thrown seven touchdown passes in CEFL play while adding another score on the ground. Pierre-Yves Dayres has been one of his favorite targets with two touchdown receptions, while Adel Bafdile has demonstrated remarkable versatility by scoring on an interception return, a rushing touchdown and a touchdown pass.
The Broncos counter with one of the most balanced attacks in European football. Robin Sennrich has accounted for two passing touchdowns and one rushing score during the tournament, while Thomas Smith has emerged as the team’s most versatile weapon with four rushing touchdowns and another through the air. Noah Bachofen has added two rushing touchdowns, giving Calanda multiple ways to attack opposing defenses.
Momentum meets motivation
The defending champions enter the final riding an emotional high after capturing another French title just one week ago. Thonon rallied from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Cannes Iron Mask 49-46 in one of the wildest championship games in recent memory, showing once again why the club has become one of Europe’s premier programs.
The Broncos, meanwhile, have had more time to prepare after finishing the Swiss regular season with an 8-2 record, earning a semifinal berth while focusing squarely on another opportunity to claim European glory.
History waiting to be made
Both clubs understand what is at stake. Thonon is chasing back-to-back CEFL championships and another milestone in an already remarkable era for the club. Calanda is seeking to finally erase the frustration of three previous defeats in CEFL championship games and lift the trophy for the first time.
With proven quarterbacks, explosive playmakers and championship-caliber defenses on both sidelines, CEFL Bowl XX promises to deliver another outstanding showcase for European football. If last year’s final—and each team’s dramatic semifinal victory—are any indication, fans should expect four quarters where every possession could decide the championship.
