LIVESTREAM CEFL: Copenhagen Towers @ Calanda Broncos, April 20, 18:00 CET (6 pm, 12 noon EDT)

The Calanda Broncos, Swiss title holders, will face Danish champions, the Copenhagen Towers in the opening round of the Central European Football League tournament April 20, in Chur, Switzerland.

The Broncos have appeared in the CEFL every year since 2019 when they went to the final but lost to Austria’s Swarco Raiders 46-42. Last season they were upended by Thonon Black Panthers in the first round, sustaining a three point loss, 38-35.

Currently, the Broncos sit stop the Swiss league standings with a 3-0 record. Calanda head coach Geoff Buffum relies on quarterback Robin Sennrich and his favorite target is receiver Maxwell Gray, who’s returning for yet another season. Another import, Andre Blackett Jr. will lead the defense as a linebacker.

The Towers are appearing in the CEFL for the third time. In 2018 they were eliminated by the Swarco Raiders and in 2022, Sweden’s Örebro Black Knights defeated them.

The team is now returning as the 2023 Danish champions. They went undefeated during the season with a 10-0 record including the championship game. Their roster is based on domestic players with the only import being an offensive lineman, Steven Schwartz (Rowan University).
