The undefeated Cannes Iron Mask welcome La Courneuve Flash on Sunday in a highly anticipated French D1 Elite semifinal featuring two of the country’s hottest teams and a place in the national championship game on the line.
This matchup has a familiar feel. For the second straight season, Cannes hosts La Courneuve in the semifinals. Last year, the Iron Mask escaped with a narrow 21-20 victory. Now the Flash return looking for revenge while Cannes aims to keep its perfect season alive.
Iron Mask chasing perfection
Few teams have been as dominant as the Iron Mask this season.
Cannes finished the regular season 10-0, leading the Southern Conference in both points scored and points allowed. The team’s balance has been particularly impressive, combining a high-powered offense with a defense that rarely gives opponents room to breathe.
The regular season finale was another example of that dominance. The Iron Mask rolled past the Toulouse Ours 41-0, controlling the game from start to finish.
Quarterback Conor Miller spread the ball effectively, connecting with Yanis Polin for a touchdown while also getting contributions from Amadou Seck, Key, and Loris Savalle. Defensively, Lucas Fontenil forced a fumble that Léopold Mendes Tavares returned for a touchdown as Cannes overwhelmed Toulouse on both sides of the ball.

Flash arriving with momentum
The Flash are entering the semifinal with plenty of confidence as well.
After some ups and downs early in the season, La Courneuve appears to be peaking at the right time. The team earned its semifinal berth with a convincing 61-15 wild card victory over the Grizzlys Catalans.
Quarterback Jaylen Tregle and receiver DeAndre Mister led the offensive explosion. Tregle threw a touchdown pass to Mister, added a rushing score of his own, and helped the offense build a commanding halftime lead.
The defense was just as impressive. Raphael Fourlin intercepted three passes, returning one for a touchdown, while the entire unit kept constant pressure on the Catalans offense.
Stars all over the field
This game features playmakers on both sides.
For Cannes, Miller, Polin, Seck and Savalle headline an offense that has consistently found ways to score. For La Courneuve, the Tregle-Mister connection has become one of the most dangerous combinations in the league.
Fourlin’s ball-hawking ability could also play a major role if turnovers become a factor.
One win from the final
The stakes could hardly be higher.
The Iron Mask are trying to stay on course for a perfect season and a championship. The Flash are chasing a return to the top after falling short of the title since 2022.
With two explosive offenses, aggressive defenses, and recent playoff history between them, this semifinal has all the ingredients of a classic French D1 Elite showdown.
