LIVESTREAM: Germany – Berlin Rebels #7 @Dresden Monarchs #8, August 12, 3p CET (9a ET)

The Dresden Monarchs (8-2), Europe #8, will look to take revenge for an embarrassing loss earlier in the season when they take on the Berlin Rebels (7-2), Europe #7, in Dresden’s Heinz-Steyer Stadion, Sunday, August 12.

In the German Football League’s 15th week of the season, this may be the most important game of the weekend.  The Rebels handed Dresden a 30-7 loss in early June.

The Monarchs sit second in the GFL North division while Berlin is right behind them in third. Dresden’s only two losses came at the hands of the Rebels and the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions. Meanwhile, Berlin lost to the Potsdam Royals and also, surprisingly to the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes and has wins over both the Monarchs and Lions.

Despite dropping two of the last six, the Monarchs have looked impressive so far in 2018. They have the second highest scoring offense in Germany averaging 39.5 points a game and the defense is fifth allowing 23.1.

Trenton Norvell of the Dresden Monarchs is the 2nd leading passer in Germany with 2,861 yards and 35 TDs. His leading receiver is Mitchell Paige who leads all receivers in Germany and has caught 80 passes for 1,286 yards and a league-leading 18 TDs.

AJ Wentland of the Dresden Monarchs is a tackling machine and in the last three games he has recorded 41 tackles. He  tops the GFL with a whopping 136 tackles in 10 games. He has had 3 games of 20+ tackles.

For the Rebels, defense has been more of the key. Berlin has the fourth best defense in Germany giving up 16.9 points and 299 yards a game.

Sean Richard leads the Rebels in rushing and he is fourth in the league with 660 yards and eight touchdowns.  In the win against Cologne right before the break he was a workhorse gaining gaining 125 yards. He has fellow Dutchman, Chris Smith also in the backfield making for a potent running combination to go along with quarterback Terrell Robinson who has 354 yards rushing. Robinson has thrown for 1,663 yards so far.

In the win over Dresden, Smith, Richard and Robinson combined for 168 yards rushing with Robinson scoring three touchdowns. He completed 12 of 18 passes in that game for 134 yards. In other words, Dresden will need to keep the Rebels quarterback in check to win this game.

Defensive back Jamaal White is the top tackler for Berlin with 59 tackles.
