LIVESTREAM Germany: Braunschweig New Yorker Lions @ Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, July 3, 15:00 CET (3 pm, 09:00 am ET)

The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (0-4) will play host to the 2019 defending champions, the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions (2-1) in this German Football League North matchup.

The Lions visit Kiel on a mission for redemption after last week’s disappointing loss to the Dresden Monarchs, while the Hurricanes are eager keep improving on last week’s “moral victory” in Berlin.

Braunschweig suffered a surprising 34-27 loss last week to the Dresden Monarchs,  their first regular season defeat in 1,002 days, when they lost to the Berlin Rebels in September 2018. Turnovers were the villain as the Lions offense and quarterback Jake Kennedy looked to push the ball deep to keep up with a high scoring Dresden offense. This week, Kennedy and the New Yorker offense expect to get back on track as they aim to regroup from the loss against a Kiel defense that has struggled through four games.

Defensively, the Lions failed to contain the athletic Monarchs receivers. This week, Dashawn Benton and the Braunschweig secondary must wrap up their tackles and tighten their coverage. Kiel receiver Weston Carr will likely be double teamed as he’s been a star playmaker for this Hurricanes team.

Kiel has yet to earn a win this season, but took a step closer last week with an excellent game taking the Berlin Rebels down to the wire in Germany’s capital.  Quarterback Joe Germinerio returned from injury and was able to find receiver Weston Carr and move the sticks as Kiel kept things competitive until the end of the game . Germinerio and the Hurricanes offense should improve as the first year quarterback meshes with his new team.

Hurricanes linebacker Darin Hungerford will have a busy day as the Lions love to run the ball with speedy Exavier Edwards. Hungerford is the German Football League’s leading tackler with 54 total stops in four games. The sure tackler looks to continue that against a Lions team that expects to move the chains on the ground behind an experienced offensive line.

Braunschweig head coach Troy Tomlin’s track record in Germany makes fans confident that this Lions team will be able to rebound this season and return as one of the leagues title contenders. The Lions roster has gone through major changes since their 2019 championship and will look for young and local players to step up in clutch moments. Today’s game gives them a chance to earn those moments against a Kiel team looking to build on the momentum of their hard fought game last week.
