The 5-2 Dresden Monarchs travel to Düsseldorf  to face the winless Düsseldorf Panther (0-9) as the German Football League gets back after a four week break.

Dresden is facing a team they defeated 49-13 in the opening game of the year. Düsseldorf tried to stem the tide by making a coaching change but it has not made a difference. They have lost four games since the change.

In all, the Panther have dropped nine in a row following a a 20-10 loss to the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes before the break. They lost back to back games to the Rebels, 55-20 and 55-13. The week before they suffered a 44-21 loss to the Cologne Crocodiles which followed a game in which they were beaten by the Hiidesheim Invaders 46-10. They had opened the season losing to the Monarchs 49-13, the Invaders 49-17 , Potsdam Royals, 34-17 and the Hurricanes 37-17.

Panther quarterback Christian Strong (Seton Hill) has completed 197 of 349 passes for 1,975 yards and 13 touchdowns with Féli Manoka as his leading receiver with 687 yards. He has tossed 18 interceptions however. Sergej Kendus is the team’s leading rusher but he has only carried the ball 69 times for 334 yards in six games and with 137 of those yards in one game against Potsdam. In fact, the Panther are the second worst rushing team in Germany averaging 60 yards a game.

Dresden rebounded from their two losses beating the Potsdam Royals 33-13 after getting a 42-7 win over the Cologne Crocodiles. They had been on a two-game losing streak. They were beaten by the Hildesheim Invaders 31-27 after leading most of the game. They  lost their first game of the year six weeks ago, dropping a narrow 34-31 decision to the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions. The Monarchs had won three straight,  including 49-13 over the Dusseldorf Panther, 42-14 over the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes and a 17-0 shutout of the Cologne Crocodiles.

Monarchs quarterback Zach Greenlee returned for the last two games before the break after missing the Hildesheim game the week before. He looked impressive in both throwing for a total of 571 yards and five touchdowns. He threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns. He had been replaced by Glen Cuiellette in the loss to Hildesheim. Greenlee is second the GFL in yards per game, 308.3, and has thrown for 1,850 yards and 16 touchdowns against only three interceptions. The top receiver for the Monarchs is Kevonn Mabon who has 58 receptions for 958 yards and eight touchdowns and is second in the league in receiving yards per game (137 yds/game). British RB Glen Toonga has rushed for 401 yards and three touchdowns in seven games.Linebacker AJ Wentland leads a tough Dresden defense and is again the leading tackler in the GFL with 101 tackles averaging 14.4 tackles (!) per game.
