The Munich Cowboys (2-2) will travel to Marburg to take on the Marburg Mercenaries (1-2) in this German Football League South matchup.
The Cowboys are eager to get back on track with a win, while Marburg sees a chance to earn their second win of the season.
The Mercenaries offense features standout running back Marcus Cox. The Appalachian State (NCAA D1 FBS) record breaking back is averaging 111 yards a game on 6.3 yards per carry. Look for veteran German quarterback Sonny Weishaupt to utilize play action passes to get the ball to speedy Aaron Seward. Weishaupt broke a milestone last week breaking the 10,000 yard mark for passing yards in his career, an impressive feat for the home grown signal caller. However, today fans can expect Cox to be the feature player in this offense as he’s had a week off to heal his nagging injuries.

Defensively, Marburg will have to matchup against a potent Munich passing attack. Defensive backs Reuben de Ruyter and Marvin Hart will have to tackle well and play tight coverage against a Munich offense averaging 44 points a game. Look for de Ruyter to make some big plays for his Mercenaries today as the versatile Belgian is one of the cornerstones of this Marburg secondary.
The Cowboys are aiming to bounce back after a disappointing performance last week against the Comets. Quarterback Justin Sottilare will use his big arm to connect with speedy receiver Michiah Quick downfield. Quick pairs well with physical possession receiver Kai Silbermann giving this offense both finesse and power on the outside. Running back Brandon Watkins has the speed to move the chains and power to run through contact. Look for the former rugby player to get plenty of touches today.
Munich’s defense will rely on another veteran to carry the load as linebacker Ryan Newell will be matched up with the explosive running back Marcus Cox. Newell will need help from Cowboys defensive end Domonic Seigel in order to keep Marburg running game bottled up.
The Cowboys are part of a talented group of teams in the GFL South hoping to make a run at the post season. Marburg on the other hand has a chance to right the ship as they’ve flashed the potential to make a run at the playoffs despite their up and down early season start.
