Marburg Mercenaries re-sign WR Aaron Seward

The Marburg Mercenaries continue to get ready for the 2021 German Football League season with the re-signing of wide receiver/defensive back Aaron Seward from Carson-Newman University.

The 26 year old, 190 pound Seward, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, had originally signed with Marburg prior to the 2020 season which was then canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Seward spent the 2019 season with the Darmstadt Diamonds in Germany’s second division and in the two seasons prior to that played for the Frankfurt Pirates and in 2017 in the final five games of the season accumulated 882 all-purpose yards while scoring 13 touchdowns.

In his senior season at Carson-Newman (NCAA Div. II), he played all 11 games and was second on the team in receiving with 23 catches for 464 yards and three touchdowns. He was a starter for the three last years of his college career and during that time finished among the top 10 in receiving.

Starting Marburg quarterback Sonny Weishaupt:

“Aaron has very good, secure hands and a great speed, he is a real deep threat target.”

Offensive coordinator Micah Brown is delighted:

“We couldn’t have found a better player for this position. Aaron is a great talent with an impressive training ethic. Although there were no games in 2020, he integrated perfectly into the team and achieved a very good connection with our quarterback – the two understand each other blindly.”

Seward also hopes that this season he can finally show what he can do in the GFL:

“I was immediately won over by the training regime and philosophy of coach Tricario and coach Brown. Although we haven’t played a game, they gave me a very good team feeling, the chemistry is just right. We have some dangerous weapons on this team and will certainly cause problems for our opponents.”
