This Saturday’s German Football League action will be headlined by a key GFL North matchup, as the Dresden Monarchs (7-1) will travel to Berlin to avenge their week three loss against the Rebels (6-3).

The previous game between the two teams saw the Rebels walk away from Dresden with a 30-23 win, however it preceded a three game losing streak for the Berlin side. The Monarchs, though, have yet to come close to losing a game since the apparent week three fluke.

The Rebels recently avenged a loss of their own, making up for their 16-8 week four loss to the Paderborn Dolphins with a 35-7 victory over the same team. The game opened up with a 51-yard touchdown rush from quarterback Connor Kaegi, as he pulled the read-option and ran untouched into the endzone from behind the half-way line.

Kaegi went on to have a four-score game, finding the endzone three times on the ground and once with his arm to Dario Dobrolevski. Running back Andreas Betza did the majority of the heavy lifting for the Rebels as he had 16 carries for 147 yards and a touchdown.

The Monarchs are coming off yet another offensively dominant performance, beating out the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes 43-19 away from home. The game was another display of excellence for the GFL’s top passing offense, as quarterback Steven Duncan recorded his fourth game this season with five or more touchdowns, while Austin Mitchell put up his seventh 100-yard game of the season.

A week prior, Dresden solidified themselves as the top team in the North with a convincing win over the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions. The game saw great performances on both sides of the ball, including an interception from British defensive back Joe Cassidy, giving him three on the year and solidifying himself as a name to watch in the future.

With wins over the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes and New Yorker Lions, the Monarchs have now defeated every team in the GFL North except the Rebels. Are they Dresden’s Achilles’ heel, or will the reigning GFL North champions make up for their week three blunder on Saturday?
