The Munich Cowboys (5-4) host the Ravensburg Razorbacks (6-3) Saturday at Dantestadion in a German Football League South matchup that could have a major impact on playoff positioning and the race for a home quarterfinal.

With only one win separating the teams, Munich has an opportunity to pull even with the Razorbacks, while Ravensburg can strengthen its position near the top of the division. The teams meet only once during the regular season.

Cowboys looking to bounce back

The Cowboys enter the game after a hard-fought 14-7 loss to the Pforzheim Wilddogs.

Head coach Christos Lambropoulos’ team has leaned heavily on its passing game, producing a league-high 2,654 yards through the air. The Razorbacks are right behind them with 2,647, setting up a matchup between two offenses that are comfortable putting the ball in the air.

For Munich, Gabriel Boccella has been the big-play threat. He leads the league with 16 receiving touchdowns, well ahead of teammate Sebastian Reiner, who has three.

Ravensburg spreads the ball around

While Boccella has accounted for much of Munich’s receiving production in the end zone, the Razorbacks have found touchdowns from several different players.

Anthony Harris Jr. leads the group with 10 receiving touchdowns, followed by Tim Müller with seven, William Enneking with five and Aniel Buße with four.

The Ravensburg running game adds another problem for opposing defenses. Lennies McFerren has scored nine touchdowns, helping an offense that is averaging 36.2 points per game compared to Munich’s 27.1.

Pressure could decide the game

With both teams capable of moving the ball through the air, whichever defense makes the opposing quarterback uncomfortable could gain a major advantage.

The Razorbacks have recorded 24 sacks and eight interceptions this season. Ben Rashid leads the way with 11 sacks, while Samuel Mindham has three and Alex Mashak has two.

Munich has its own pass-rush threats in Austin Spille, Johannes Rumpfinger and Elias Frank, putting plenty of responsibility on the Ravensburg offensive line.

Special teams could come into play

The Cowboys also have another weapon if drives stall. They have attempted 13 field goals, tied with Kiel for the league high, while kicker Maximilian Mittasch has scored 43 points.

With playoff position and potentially a home quarterfinal at stake, there is little separating these teams heading into one of the weekend’s most intriguing GFL South matchups.
