LIVESTREAM Germany PPV: Regensburg Phoenix @ Allgäu Comets, July 18, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 10 am ET)
The Allgäu Comets (1-5) welcome the Regensburg Phoenix (1-5) to Illerstadion in Kempten on Saturday in a matchup that could have major implications at the bottom of the German Football League South standings. With both teams searching for their second win of the season, this first-ever GFL meeting between the clubs comes with plenty on the line.
A chance to climb
The winner will gain more than just another victory. With both teams entering the weekend tied at 1-5, the game offers an opportunity to create some breathing room in the standings while building confidence for the second half of the season.
For the Comets, protecting home field will be a priority. Playing in front of their supporters at Illerstadion has always been an advantage, and they’ll be looking to take advantage of the familiar surroundings in a game that could shape the remainder of their season.

Quarterbacks under pressure
Both offenses have leaned heavily on their quarterbacks this year. Brad Jones has completed 134 of 229 passes for 1,235 yards and nine touchdowns for the Comets, while Cameron Yowell has thrown for 951 yards and six touchdowns for the Phoenix.
Neither passer has had an easy season, with both throwing eight interceptions, making ball security one of the biggest storylines entering the matchup.
Jones’ favorite target has been Gabe Quigley, who has caught 51 passes for 574 yards and four touchdowns. On the other side, Nicolas Hayes leads the Phoenix receiving corps with 33 receptions for 291 yards and two scores.
Ground game could be the difference
The Phoenix hold an edge on the ground thanks to Nebechi Abana, who has rushed for 317 yards while averaging 4.7 yards per carry and scoring twice. Allgäu will counter with Benedikt Schulz, who has carried the ball 31 times for 106 yards and one touchdown.
Whichever team establishes the running game should be able to take pressure off its quarterback and control the tempo.
Looking for a response
Both clubs enter the game coming off difficult losses. The Comets were shut out 35-0 by the Pforzheim Wilddogs, while the Phoenix fell 42-14 to the unbeaten Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.
Despite those setbacks, both teams showed flashes they can build on. The Comets will be looking for Jones and Quigley to reconnect after facing one of the league’s toughest defenses, while the Phoenix hope to build around Yowell, Abana and Hayes against a direct competitor.
With two evenly matched teams desperate for a victory, expect a physical, hard-fought contest where limiting mistakes and winning the turnover battle could ultimately make the difference.
