Week seven of the German Football League will open up on Saturday as the Dresden Monarchs host the Saarland Hurricanes in a cross divisional matchup. With both teams holding 3-1 records and winning momentum, the game is sure to be pivotal for each team’s season.

After a massive 59-45 win over the previously undefeated Potsdam Royals, the Monarchs have re-established themselves as one of the top teams in the GFL.

As the scoreline depicts, the game was all offense; Monarchs QB Steven Duncan broke 500 yards passing with six touchdowns on the day, while also picking up 67 yards on the ground.

Dresden showed off their impressive receiving corps in a way they hadn’t done for the rest of the season; as opposed to the usual 200-yard, four touchdown performance from Austin Mitchell, Duncan spread the ball to seven receivers. Leon Otto led receivers with 144 yards and a touchdown, while Austin Mitchell and Tommy Wilson both broke 100 yards and brought in two scores each.

The Saarland Hurricanes are on a three-game winning streak, with their last loss coming in their opening game to the currently undefeated Allgäu Comets. Saarland only lost the game by four points, giving the Comets their toughest game of the season so far.

After their loss, Saarland brought in quarterback Robby Rowell (USA, University of California, NCAA DI, University of Nottingham) who has averaged 267 yards-per-game with 13 total touchdowns in his three appearances.

Their most recent game was a 46-30 win over the Ingolstadt Dukes, in which Rowell not only passed for 245 yards and a touchdown but went for 151 yards and two scores on the ground. British RB Thomas Jones (NFL Academy, Manchester Titans) also found the endzone three times.

This game is sure to be another high-scorer as the top two offenses in the league face off at Bärnsdorfer Superdome.
