LIVESTREAM Norwegian Championship: Eidsvoll 1814s @ Oslo Vikings, July 1, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 10 am EDT)

The Norwegian League of American Football 2023 Championship Game will feature two of Norway’s top teams over the past decade as the Oslo Vikings will host the defending champion Eidsvoll 1814’s for their second matchup of the season.

Earlier in the year, the Vikings walked away with a win in their first matchup, easily defeating Eidsvoll 42-14. Oslo is currently on a four-game win streak, including a 28-6 victory in the semifinals against the Lillestrom Starfighters. The 1814’s punched their ticket to the championship game after their convincing semifinal win against the Kristiansand Gladiators by a score of 28-20.

For Oslo and head coach Derek Mann, this can be a chance to get back at Eidsvoll after losing to them in last year’s final. Led by quarterback Jesber Cornelius Johnsen, the Vikings offense uses a heavy dosage of passing to move the ball down the field. Linn Byrd, Frederik Fjeldseth and Daniel Nygard have been Johnsen’s key targets all season. Running back, Rune Nielsen gets the job done for Oslo on the ground. If at any point, Johnsen falters, Mann himself will step in.

For the 1814s, they will look to have a repeat of last season under female head coach Jenny Widding. Similar to this season, Eidsvoll lost to the Vikings in their first matchup last year before defeating them in the championship, they hope to do the same on Saturday.

The 1814’s are dually run on offense by quarterback Wilhelm Arnes Domaas and the versatile Michael Anthony Hall. After only putting up 14 points in their first meeting with Oslo, Hall and Domaas are surely eager for the opportunity to pull off another upset but will need to score much more than 14 points to do so.
