LIVESTREAM POLISH BOWL: Krakow Kings vs Bialystok Lowlanders, July 23, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 10 am ET)

The Polish Football League championship game, Polish Bowl XVII, features two teams from opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of history as the Krakow Kings who are appearing in the game for the first time take on the Bialystok Lowlanders who are making their fourth appearance in five years.

The unbeaten Kings under head coach Malik Jackson rolled through the PFL with relative ease, outscoring their opponents 255-34. The stiffest opposition they faced was in fact the Lowlanders, who they beat 42-21 in the second week of the regular season. In the semifinals, Krakow blanked the fourth place Warsaw Mets 37-0.

Bialystok head coach Troy Baker has guided his team to the title game after losing just that one game to the Kings. The Lowlanders then handed the Tychy Falcons a 40-15 beatdown in the semifinals.

Krakow’s dual threat quarterback Jake Schimenz threw for 897 yards and 10 touchdowns during the regular season while rushing for 296 yards and another 10 scores. He does cause problems for defenses and will put all kinds of pressure on the Lowlanders front seven today. His counterpart with Bialystok, Nick Rooney, topped the PFL in passing completing 82 of 148 passes for 1,347 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for 113 and one score.

Schimenz’s favorite target was Jacek Kusmierczyk who hauled in 16 passes for 230 yards. Rooney found Rafal Krolewski most often. Krolewski hauled in 24 passes for 554 yards and 10 touchdowns while Aaron Jones caught 20 passes for 305 yards and seven touchdowns.

Running back Widtold Szpotanski was the leading rusher for the undefeated Kings with 41 carries for 322 yards and five touchdowns. The Lowlanders ground game is led by Mikołaj Pawlaczyk who carried the ball 71 times for 533 yards and seven scores. Krzysztof Czaplejewicz is an excellent complement to the hard running Pawlaczyk with 430 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

In fact, in terms of offense, these two teams are as evenly matched as possible. The Kings racked up 2,306 yards for an average of 329.4 yards per game while Bialystok produced 2,487 for 355.2 yards per game.

Defensively, Krakow relies on linebacker Matt Barrett who led the team with 46 tackles and six sacks, but two other important components of the front seven include linebacker Dominic Janda and defensive lineman Patryk Jakubiec.

For the Lowlanders, linebacker Alvin Reels has been the key. He had 59 tackles averaging 8.4 a game. Defensive linemen Damian Wesołowski and Konrad Paszkiewicz along with linebacker Yahor Liatkouski round out an impressive front seven unit while the secondary relies on defensive back Maciek Jabłoński.

Although the first game between these two ended in a convincing win for Krakow, expect this championship matchup to be far different.
