.This weekend the Superserien Kicks off with an exciting matchup between the Uppsala 86ers and the Örebro Black Knights. The visiting Uppsala 86ers are looking to go into Örebro and get the win. Both teams have new faces from all over Europe mixing with returning talent. It will be interesting to see how this matchup sets the tone for the season.
Offensively the Black Knights will have quarterback Jake Sisson under center. Sisson last played for the Ingolstadt Dukes of Germany and the Kragujevac Wild Boars of Serbia in 2019. The Black Knights are also bringing back Swedish running back Kasper Wedberg. Wedberg had originally signed to play the 2020 season for the German Football League champion New Yorker Lions before the German season was canceled. Wedberg is excited to come back to Sweden to play for a team that he knows well. Wedberg helped the Black Knights reach the final in 2017 rushing for over 600 yards that season. Wedberg is physical runner who last played for the Thonon Black Panthers in France where he ran for 675 yards and 10 touchdown on only 116 carries on the way to winning the French title. Blocking for Wedberg will be Spanish offensive lineman Eduardo Sanchez who last played for the Catalan Grizzlies in France. Another new weapon for Örebro will be Dutch receiver Dylan Reede who has experience playing all over the field for the Amsterdam Crusaders. Quarterback Jake Sisson had some thoughts on the upcoming matchup with the 86ers:
“The team is ready to go, we have been practicing hard and we can’t wait to step on the game field. The league is gonna be even more interesting there is gonna be a lot of talent”

The Uppsala 86ers are going into the season looking to be back in the hunt for the championship. The 86ers combined this season with the Arlanda Jets creating a club rich with Swedish talent. They will need this talent to preform as they are going with no import players this season.The most talented part of this team will be their running back group, featuring Oscar Nevermann, Josh Akena, and Johannes Nilsson. All three of these running backs are established veterans with a plethora of experience. Nevermann, is a former university of Wyoming, and Frankfurt Universe player. Another back is Josh Akena who has been a dominant runner in both the Swedish Superserien and Finnish Maple League. The third wheel of this tricycle is Johannes Nilsson a veteran back who was named one of the top players in Sweden in 2019 by profootballsweden. Look for head coach Moe Kadkhodai to use these three in different positions throughout the season. This trio along with wide receiver Isac Wikman will help out their Swedish quarterback and should be a explosive offense. Head coach Kadkhodia on the upcoming season.
“So as you can see we have a bunch of super Swedish talent! Going zero imports this year and only working on our Swedish talent! This season is the first year of the three year plan of UNITED Football (Arlanda Jets and Uppsala 86ers) Working to get better together! The goal is to have both teams in the Superseries by the end of 2022! The three amigos, with the three punch combo of Oscar, Joshua and Johannes I’m positive that we will have strong running game this year and hopefully with that I can take the pressure of my young Swedish quarterbacks.”
The team also announced the signing of Mark Rosenquist, a 6’4 300-pound lineman who played for Butte College and Grand Valley State. Rosenquist is a native Swede who made an impressive 61 total tackles, 1 sack, and 1 interception in 28 games on the defensive line for Grand Valley State. Look for Rosenquist to be a disruptive force in the middle of their defense this season. Rosenquist joins a defense that is anchored upfront by an established defensive line.
Both the Black Knights and the 86ers are infused with new talent this season. After a long off season these players are ready to set the tone for their shortened season. It will be interesting to see how these two team’s matchup in the first of their 2-game series.
