Louisville Kings clinch playoff spot with 31-17 victory over Dallas Renegades

In a crucial Week Nine United Football League matchup, the Louisville Kings (5-4) secured a vital 31-17 victory over the Dallas Renegades (3-6), pushing themselves into playoff contention. Quarterback Chandler Rogers led the charge with a stellar performance, accounting for three total touchdowns and guiding a dominant offensive effort that racked up 457 yards.

Early Action Sets the Tone

The game kicked off under challenging conditions, with heavy rain soaking Lynn Family Stadium during warmups. Although the weather cleared before kickoff, the slick field played a role throughout the game. The Renegades started strong, with Ellis Merriweather breaking off a powerful 20-yard run on their first play. Quarterback Austin Reed quickly found Tyler Vaughns for a 36-yard touchdown, giving Dallas an early 7-0 lead.

However, the Kings responded with determination. After driving deep into Dallas territory, a fumble by James Robinson, caused by Qwynnterrio Cole, shifted the momentum back to the Renegades. Despite this setback, Louisville managed to get on the board with a 45-yard field goal from Tanner Brown, setting a new UFL single-season record with his 23rd made field goal.

Kings Fight Back

The Renegades extended their lead to 10-3 with a 49-yard field goal from Colton Theaker, but the Kings were just getting started. As the second quarter unfolded, Rogers found his rhythm, connecting with Tarik Black for a 33-yard gain and later converting a crucial third-and-12 to Kaden Prather. This set up Rogers for a one-yard rushing touchdown, tying the game at 10-10.

With under two minutes left in the half, Rogers orchestrated a quick scoring drive, highlighted by a 31-yard completion to Lucky Jackson. Brown capped the drive with another field goal, giving Louisville a 13-10 lead at halftime.

Second Half Surge

Coming out of the break, Brown continued his hot streak, hitting a 54-yard field goal to extend the Kings‘ lead to 16-10. Meanwhile, the Renegades struggled offensively, failing to convert on third downs and missing a 40-yard field goal attempt.

In the fourth quarter, Dallas finally found the end zone again, with Curtis Hodges catching a 12-yard touchdown pass from Reed, reclaiming a 17-16 lead. However, the Kings quickly answered back. Rogers connected with Isaiah Winstead for a 40-yard touchdown, and a successful two-point conversion pushed the lead to 24-17.

Closing the Game

The momentum shifted dramatically when Eric “The Terror” Garror intercepted Reed, giving Louisville a chance to extend their lead. The Kings‘ rushing attack took over, with Ian Wheeler scoring a one-yard touchdown to make it 31-17. Rogers sealed the game with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Tarik Black, marking the Kings‘ third straight win and their first time above .500 in franchise history.

With this victory, the Kings are poised for a playoff run as they head into their final regular-season game against Columbus next Sunday. Meanwhile, the Renegades face a tough road ahead after suffering their sixth consecutive loss.
