Madrid Bravos sign British RB Dwayne Obi

The Madrid Bravos have revealed another huge signing, bringing in British running back Dwayne Obi.

After spending the opening years of his career playing domestically both for Coventry University and the London Warriors, with whom he won the Britbowl Championship in 2019, Obi took to the European scene.

In 2022, Obi participated in the Canadian Football League Global Combine, based at SGS College in Bristol. The power back stood out as the one of the strongest blockers of the athletes in attendance, while recording an impressive 20 reps on the bench press.

Following an impressive two-touchdown performance against Italy while playing for Great Britain, Obi signed with the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions in the German Football League where he instantly stood out as one of the top players around the league.

Across 12 games, the  6’2”, 240-pound runner recorded an average of 105.5 yards-per-game with 10 touchdowns, ranking first in all categories amongst running backs in the regular season. He finished the season with an outstanding 1,402 all-purpose yards.

A standout performance of Obi’s came when the Lions faced off with the Paderborn Dolphins for their second game of the season. On 22 carries, he tallied just north of 200 yards with two touchdowns to his name, helping push the team to a 42-14 win.

Obi is the first major imported signing on Madrid’s offense, where he will join forces with an already star-studded defensive unit headlined by the likes of Luke Glenna and Alejandro Fernandez. The newly-formed Bravos are looking to make an instant impact on the ELF.

A current student at Bournemouth University as well as a quarterback with eight years of playing experience. Brad's goal is to be a part of the growth of the game around the world through journalism and media.
