Mexico’s ONEFA college football league kicks off
The ONEFA (Organización Nacional Estudiantil de Futbol Americano) kicks off its 2018 college football season in Mexico with a slate of nine games starting Friday, September 7.
Unfortunately, the opening weekend has changed as the classic game between the defending champions, the Pumas UNAM and Águilas Blancas IPN has been postponed due to a violent student campus clash earlier in the week.
The Pumas won the 2017 title, beating the Auténticos Tigres 18-15 in front of a sold out crowd of 40,000 at Olympic University Stadium in Mexico City.
However, nine games, including the Classic Tamaulipeco between the Reynosa and Victoria campuses of the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT), make up for the postponed game on the opening day that is key to the development of student football in Mexico. .
