Munich Ravens clinch EFA playoff berth with road win over Raiders Tirol
The Munich Ravens (6-0) became the first team to officially qualify for the European Football Alliance BIG4 Semi Final Weekend Saturday, defeating the Raiders Tirol (0-6) 32-24 on the road after building a commanding first-half lead and then holding off a determined second-half comeback.
The victory keeps Munich unbeaten atop the league standings, while the Raiders showed plenty of fight despite dropping their sixth straight game.
Ravens dominate early
The Ravens wasted little time establishing control.
Although their opening drive stalled on a failed fourth-down attempt deep inside Raiders Tirol territory, Russell Tabor quickly found his rhythm. After the home team was forced to punt, Justus Seelig caught a short touchdown pass from Tabor to open the scoring. The extra point was missed, leaving Munich with a 6-0 lead.
The Raiders answered with an impressive drive sparked by Lukas Haslwanter, Felix Kantner and Steven Krajewski before Jonata Loria converted a field goal to trim the deficit to 6-3.
That would be as close as Tirol would get before halftime.
Tabor connected with Malik Stanley for another touchdown before Bijon Harris intercepted Krajewski to stop a promising Raiders drive. The turnover quickly turned into points as Konstantin Stricker reached the end zone, and Marvin Rutsch added another touchdown before the break. A successful two-point conversion gave the visitors a commanding 26-3 halftime advantage.
Raiders battle back
The game took on a completely different look after halftime.
Both defenses controlled much of the third quarter before Krajewski finally led the Raiders on a sustained scoring drive. Tim Tonko capped the possession with a rushing touchdown to cut the deficit to 26-10 and inject life into the home crowd.
The momentum continued early in the fourth quarter when Tonko caught a short touchdown pass from Krajewski. Although the two-point attempt failed, the Raiders were suddenly within striking distance at 26-16.
Playoff berth secured
Every time Tirol threatened, the Ravens found an answer.
Backup quarterback Lewin Adrom extended the lead with a touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter, restoring breathing room for the league leaders.
The Raiders refused to quit, however. Toni Rabensteiner broke free for a long touchdown run before the home side converted the two-point attempt to make it 32-24.
Despite the late surge, Munich successfully ran out the remaining time to preserve another unbeaten performance.
Tabor directed an efficient first half before Adrom helped finish the job, while Seelig, Stanley, Stricker and Rutsch all reached the end zone. For the Raiders, Tonko sparked the comeback with two touchdowns, and Krajewski showed resilience after a difficult first half as Tirol once again demonstrated it can compete with one of the league’s elite teams even if the breakthrough victory remains elusive.
