Porvoon Butchers face Tampere Saints with Maple League playoff implications

The Tampere Saints (2-7) host the Porvoon Butchers (7-2) at Pyynikki Friday night in a regular-season finale that carries very different stakes for the two teams — and could have a major impact on the Finnish Maple League playoff picture.

Porvoon has already clinched the regular-season title and home-field advantage in the semifinals, leaving the defending champions with nothing to gain in the standings. Tampere, meanwhile, can climb from the bottom of the table to fifth with a victory, while the Helsinki Roosters need a Saints win to keep their own shot at second place alive.

Butchers can manage the finale

With first place secured, one of the biggest questions is how the Butchers handle their lineup with the playoffs approaching.

If Tampere beats Porvoo, Helsinki can still climb to second and secure a home semifinal by beating the Seinäjoki Crocodiles on Saturday.
