Prague Black Panthers clinch home semifinal with convincing win over Salzburg Ducks

The Prague Black Panthers (8-2) locked up second place in the Austrian Football League and home-field advantage in the semifinals Saturday, pulling away from the Salzburg Ducks (2-8) for a 42-14 victory in the regular-season finale at Ducks Pond.

After falling behind early, the Black Panthers responded with six unanswered touchdowns to take complete control and head into the playoffs with plenty of momentum.

Slow start, strong response

The home team struck first as Jamario Howard opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown to give Salzburg a 7-0 lead.

That proved to be the wake-up call the Black Panthers needed.

Luke Skokna took over offensively, scoring three rushing touchdowns as Prague quickly erased the deficit and built a comfortable lead. Jakub Březina also reached the end zone as the visitors controlled the pace of the game.

The Ducks briefly answered with a touchdown from Camron Madden before halftime, but Prague still carried a solid advantage into the break.

Defense seals the victory

The second half belonged to the Black Panthers defense.

After allowing the early touchdown, the unit settled in and consistently shut down the Salzburg offense. The running game was contained, the passing attack never found a rhythm, and the visitors steadily pulled further away.

Jan Vrňata added the final touchdown in the third quarter to extend the lead to 42-14, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback.

From there, Prague comfortably managed the clock and closed out one of its most complete performances of the season.

Playoff path secured

The victory guarantees the Prague Black Panthers a week off before hosting a semifinal at Athletic Field Rugby Club Sparta Praha.

After an early scare, Prague showcased the balanced football that has made it one of the AFL’s top teams. Skokna powered the offense with three rushing touchdowns while also adding a punt return touchdown, and the defense dominated the second half to send the Black Panthers into the postseason full of confidence.
