Serbian champion Kragujevac Wild Boars look to Russia, sign LB Nikolay Zarubin

The Kragujevac Wild Boars, winners of the past four Serbian titles, have signed Russian linebacker Nikolay Zarubin for the 2020 season.

The 23-year-old Zarubin, a native of Yaroslavl, Russia, spent the last two seasons playing for the Moscow Patriots, helping them reach the Russian final in 2018. He started his career with his hometown Yaroslavl Rebels where he played for three years before joining the Patriots.

Zarubin was on the Moscow Patriots team that lost to the Wild Boars in 2018 in Central European Football League, CEFL, play.

The 6′, 215 lb linebacker also saw action as a tight end and has been a member of the Russian national team for the past three seasons.

Zarubin is excited about the prospect of playing abroad with Kragujevac:

“For me, this is a chance to play football abroad! I played for Moscow Patriots in CEFL 2018 against the Wild Boars and it was a tough game! I know that Wild Boars have been the best team in Serbia over the last four years and the main rival of Belgrade Vukovi. I expect victory in every match and a title in both [Serbian & CEFL] leagues!”
