Spain’s top four seeded teams reach semifinals

The top four ranked teams in the Spanish League of American Football, LNFA, have moved on to the semifinals as the Badalona Dracs, Murcia Cobras, Osos Rivas and LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons all won their quarterfinal matchups on the weekend.

Osos Rivas 20 – Valencia Firebats 15

Madrid Osos Rivas receiver Clinton Greenaway  scored all three touchdowns, the last one with just over two minutes left in the game, to help his team defeat the Valencia Firebats 20-15 and advance to the Spanish semifinals.

The team from Madrid had taken a 14-6 halftime lead on two touchdowns from quarterback Gabe Losada to Greenaway.  Valencia had taken a 6-0 lead early in the game when quarterback Alexander mcKean had connected with Navin Mohamed.

Valencia then retook the lead when backup quarterback  Fernando Altarriba scored on a quarterback sneak from the one yard line early in the fourth quarter. But Osos Rivas backup Sergio Barbero stepped up with Losada sidelined late in the game, throwing the winning touchdown to Greenaway.

Osos now advances to play the Badalona Dracs in the semifinals.

Murcia Cobras 35 – Mallorca Voltors 14


Murcia Cobras quarterback Jordan Perry threw four touchdown passes, three of them in the first half to lead Murcia to a 35-15 quarterfinal win over the Mallorca Voltors.

The Cobras took a 26-8 halftime lead and then cruised to victory. Wide receiver Cory Holmes caught two touchdown passes while Alberto del Cerro and Jorge Escudero added one each. José Antonio Sotomayor .

For the Voltors, Craig Coffman threw touchdown passes to Andrei Lossi and Tobias Fuchs.

Murcia jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, increasing it to 28-8 by halftime. Coffman’s touchdown pass to Fuchs in the third quarter reduced the difference to 28-14 but that was as close as the Voltors got. Escudero added the insurance touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Cobras now move on the face the LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demon in the semifinals.

LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons 22 – Coslada Camioneros 12

The LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons punched their ticket to the semifinals, but the Coslada Camioneros did not make it easy for them.

The Black Demons had to come from behind twice before securing the win. Quarterback Jason Gaines threw three touchdown passes, two to Sergio Condés and one to Timothy Creenshaw and Jesús García-Valcárcel kicked a late field goal.

It was Coslada who took the lead first as Óscar de Luna tossed a touchdown pass to José Miguel Bayod. Condés scored his first to even the score at 6-6. de Luna scored on a quarterback sneak to restore the lead for the Camioneros in the second quarter. But Gaines found Condés and Crenshaw to give the Black Demons a 19-12 lead at the half.

The second half turned into a defensive battle with neither team gaining an edge. García-Valcárcel sealed the win with a late field goal.

The Black Demons will now face Murcia in the semifinals.

Badalona Dracs 78 – Gijon Mariners 12

The defending champion Badalon Dracs made short work of the Gijon Mariners exploding for 51 first half points en route to a 78-12 shellacking of the Mariners.

Quarterback Sergi Gonzalo threw five first half touchdown  two to Lorenzo Melchiorre, two more to Raul Cernuda and fifth to Brandon Ravenel, who also scored another touchdown on a spectacular kickoff return. Javier Fernandez also scored.

Mariners running back Alejandro Herrero scored ona 60 yard run.

In the second half the Dracs defense took center stage, scoring two touchdowns on fumble returns both by  Micky Genabat. Badalona backup quarterback Lorenzo Melchiorre connected with Ravenel and Guillem Garcia. For the Mariners, Herrero scored late on a pass from Marcos Martínez.

Badalona now will take on Osos Rivas in the semifinals.
