Sweden: Örebro Black Knights bring back HC Sam Eisenstadt

The Örebro Black Knights have announced that they have brought back Sam Eisenstadt as head coach and defensive coordinator.

Eisenstadt returns to Örebro after having guided Örebro to their only Swedish championship title in 2021. The 27-year-old then repeated the feat with another team in Spain in 2023, leading the Las Rozas Black Demons to their very first Spanish championship. He then served as safeties coach for the Barcelona Dragons in the European League of Football.

In capturing the 2023 Spanish title, the Black Demons went undefeated with a defense that allowed just 68 points in 10 games including the championship game.

Eisenstadt joined the Black Knights as head coach in 2021 after originally having been signed as defensive coordinator for the team in 2020. However, the pandemic forced him to return home to the United States before the season started. He had spent the previous season as defensive quality control and assistant linebacker coach at UC Davis (Div. I FCS) under former Carlstad Crusaders coach Dan Hawkins.

A native of Fair Haven, New Hersey, Eisenstadt starred as a defensive back at Fair Haven HS, earning first-team All-Shore Conference accolades and helping his team capture the 2014 state title – during which he earned state championship MVP. He went on to Elon University in North Carolina, where he garnered CAA Academic All-Conference honors as a freshman. Unfortunately, he sustained a career-ending concussion as a redshirt freshman in 2016. He began his coaching career at Elon where he was assistant defensive secondary coach.

Eisenstadt is excited:

I am very grateful and excited for this opportunity to coach the Black Knights again. I have lots of love and great memories with the club and look forward to adding more. I am planning on living in Sweden for the next 3 years or so and I have big visions for the Black Knights organization. We are looking to build a great culture that the team and city can be proud of.
