Team Serbia grinds out win, blanks Pro Hunt

Team Serbia downed a combined team of international players organized by Pro Hunt 14-0 Sunday at Belgrade’s Bask stadion in a heavy downpour.

The Pro Hunt team, playing with only 30 athletes, were outmatched by the 49 man Serbian squad. Nevertheless, they held their own in front of the packed stadium. Serbian head coach Vladislav Petković was able to use his numbers advantage, rotating his players and keeping them fresh while the Pro Hunt players barely left the field.

Serbian running back  Željko Kostić scored on a four yard run in the second quarter and Aleksandar Borković added a fourth quarter touchdown on a one yard plunge. Darko Klasan kicked both extra points for Team Serbia.

This was the first game ever for Pro Hunt and only the second game in two years for Team Serbia, and it showed. Both teams were plagued by turnovers and mistakes.

The terrible weather was also a factor for both teams.

Serbia took control of the game early but was unable to complete their drives until gaining some momentum in the second quarter. Sticking to the ground, Team Serbia began to wear down the Pro Hunt team with Kostić  opening the scoring.

As the rain intensified in the third quarter, both offenses were stymied. However with fresher legs, Serbia added the final touchdown on Borković’s one yard run.

A new challenge awaits Serbia this coming weekend as they will face Turkey.
