Top Defensive End from Mexico Turning NFL Heads

Stand-out from Auténticos Tigres attends Dallas Cowboys camp

Since Mexican American football player Octavio ‘Tavo’ González attended an NFL Regional Combine on February 14th in Houston, Texas, the defensive end from Mexico has turned heads with NFL scouts.

This past Friday, Gonzalez participated in an invitation-only session with the Dallas Cowboys. Gonzalez on Friday’s ‘Dallas Day’;

It was a blessing and a pretty good experience to be on the field with coaches like Jason Garrett, Rod Marinelli and Leon Lett. I had a great time and did my best.

We did some pass rush and hand drills with dummies, reaction drills, get outs with the ball, and some sled drills.

In the event named ‘Dallas Day’ held at the Cowboys facilities in Valley Ranch, Texas, the Mexican player’s abilities were tested alongside about 50 other draft-eligible players at various positions.

Gonzalez was a standout DE with the Tigres in Mexico’s ONEFA college football conference.

González, a defensive lineman for the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo León (UANL) Tigres, is considered one of the best young talents in Mexico.

‘Tavo’ previously worked out the NFL Regional Combine in Houston, and participated in the North Texas pro day, where the 6-3, 262 lbs. González ran the 40 in 5.01 seconds against the wind and 4.81 seconds with the wind and added a 29-inch vertical jump and a 9’6 broad jump. He ran the short shuttle in 4.4 seconds, the three-cone drill in 7.54 seconds and had 29 bench press reps.

Gonzalez, will stay in Texas for the rest of the month, training and awaiting notice from the Cowboys or other NFL calling who might come calling.

I am going to keep training and be ready for an opportunity to pop up. Nothing confirmed but they are possibilities that another team will like to see me work out.

We will all be keeping an eye on this special athlete from south of the border.
