UFL playoff race heats up as teams battle for position

As the United Football League season rolls into its seventh week, the playoff race is tightening, with DC leading the pack at 5-1, while St. Louis and Orlando are hot on their heels at 4-2. With several teams still in contention, the excitement is palpable as the postseason approaches.

DC stays red hot

DC has emerged as the clear favorite, showcasing a dominant performance in their latest game. The Defenders secured their fifth straight victory, scoring 24 points in the first half against Dallas. Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu threw three touchdown passes, and Cornell Powell made headlines with a spectacular one-handed catch. The Defenders‘ defense also shined, shutting down Austin Reed and handing Dallas its third consecutive loss, leaving them at 3-3 and in jeopardy of missing the playoffs.

St. Louis surging

Meanwhile, the St. Louis Battlehawks are making a strong push for the postseason. After a dominant win over Louisville, where they held the Kings to just 166 total yards, the Battlehawks have now won two straight games. Their defense, led by Pita Taumoepenu and Taylor Stallworth, has been a force, recording six sacks and forcing a dismal 2-for-14 on third downs. With their recent success, St. Louis is tied for second place and looking to keep the momentum going.

Aviators find their stride

In a thrilling matchup, the Columbus Aviators powered through to outlast the Gamblers and secure a crucial second victory. Their sledgehammer rushing attack piled up 179 yards, led by John Lovett, who posted 63 yards and a touchdown. The Aviators built a 21-10 halftime lead and held on for a 24-17 win, with Kenny Willekes pacing the defense with five tackles, one sack, and two tackles for loss.

As the standings currently sit, DC leads, followed by St. Louis and OrlandoDallas holds the final playoff spot at 3-3, while BirminghamLouisvilleColumbus, and Houston are all one game back at 2-4.

Week Seven promises more excitement, starting with St. Louis hosting Columbus on Friday night, followed by DC taking on Louisville and Birmingham facing Arlington on Saturday.
