University of Colorado quarterback Dominiq Ponder, 23, died early Sunday morning in a single-car accident in Boulder County, a tragic loss that has devastated the Buffaloes football program and college football community.

The Colorado State Patrol reported that Ponder was driving a 2023 Tesla when he lost control on a curve, struck a guardrail and electrical pole, then rolled down an embankment. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates speed may have been a factor in the crash, which occurred just before the team was set to begin spring practice on Monday.
