Warsaw Eagles outlast Wroclaw Panthers to capture third straight Polish Bowl title

The defending champion Warsaw Eagles successfully retained the Polish title, outlasting the Wroclaw Panthers 58-40 in a thrilling Polish Bowl XXI at Olympic Stadium in Wroclaw to claim their third consecutive championship and sixth title in club history.

Defense sets the early tone

For nearly an entire quarter, both defenses controlled the game despite several promising drives.

The Panthers moved the ball effectively behind Re-Al Mitchell and Krystian Stępczak but came away empty after a fourth-down stop by Eryk Paszkiewicz deep in Warsaw territory. The Eagles also struggled to find a rhythm early, with penalties interrupting several possessions before finally breaking through in the second quarter.

Stanisław Janik’s physical running helped Warsaw establish its rhythm before Woodruff connected with Bruno Waszkiewicz on a screen pass for the opening touchdown. A blocked punt by Kacper Witkowski resulted in a safety, and moments later Woodruff found Krzysztof Nosow on a 55-yard touchdown strike to stretch the lead to 15-0. Mitchell answered just before halftime with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Hubert Frej, trimming the deficit to 15-6.

Momentum swings wildly

The second half turned into an offensive showcase.

The Eagles appeared to seize complete control when Bartosz Gnoza scored on a 55-yard catch-and-run before Janik scored from seven yards out to make it 30-6.

But the Panthers refused to go away.

Mitchell found Maksymilian Cybula for a 60-yard touchdown before a fumble recovery in the end zone by Will Stricklin and a successful two-point conversion suddenly made it a 30-20 game. Mitchell then powered in for another touchdown and Hubert Frej caught the two-point conversion, cutting the deficit to just two points.

The defending champions answered immediately as Woodruff connected with Gnoza for another touchdown to take a 37-28 lead into the fourth quarter.

Champions answer every challenge

The fireworks continued over the final 15 minutes.

Nosow scored on a 10-yard run before adding the two-point conversion to restore a comfortable cushion. Cybula answered with another long touchdown reception, only to see Woodruff hook up with Nosow again for a 33-yard score. Mitchell and Cybula connected one final time on an 82-yard touchdown, but the Eagles delivered the knockout blow when Gnoza raced in from 15 yards to seal the victory.

Woodruff directed an explosive offense that delivered six touchdowns, while Nosow, Gnoza and Janik all made key contributions in a balanced attack. Although the Panthers mounted several impressive rallies behind Mitchell and Cybula, the Eagles had an answer every time.

With the victory, the Warsaw Eagles completed their championship defense, celebrating a third straight Polish Bowl crown and the sixth national title in club history.
