The Calanda Broncos of Switzerland welcome Poland’s Warsaw Eagles on Saturday in a Central European Football League semifinal that brings together two of the continent’s hottest teams and renews a matchup from last year’s final four.

The teams met in the semifinals a year ago, with the Broncos earning a 17-7 victory in a defensive battle. Now the Eagles get another opportunity to break through, while Calanda continues its pursuit of a CEFL title after falling short in three previous championship attempts.

Broncos rolling on both fronts

The Broncos enter the semifinal in excellent form. They advanced by defeating the Badalona Dracs 48-24 in the quarterfinals, putting together one of the most explosive offensive performances of the tournament so far.

Thomas Smith was the star of the show, scoring three touchdowns in the first half as Calanda built a commanding lead. Running back Noah Bachofen added two touchdowns, while quarterback Robin Sennrich and running back Amel Adjovi each found the end zone once.

The offense was particularly effective on the ground, finishing with seven rushing touchdowns against the Dracs. Defensively, Sebastian Katz delivered a key interception during a dominant first-half performance.

Success has not been limited to CEFL play. The Broncos also sit at 7-1 in the Swiss league and are firmly positioned for another postseason run.

Eagles arrive unbeaten

The Warsaw Eagles have been just as impressive.

The Polish club advanced to the semifinals with a 35-21 victory over the Bristol Aztecs, powered by an efficient performance from quarterback Vidal Woodruff.

Woodruff threw touchdown passes to Krzysztof Nosow, Jakub Sema and Bruno Waszkiewicz while consistently moving the offense down the field. Running back Meril Zéro provided an early spark, scoring the game’s first two touchdowns and helping the Eagles seize control.

The momentum extends beyond CEFL competition. The Eagles currently own a perfect 7-0 record in the Polish championship and sit atop the standings.

Playmakers everywhere

This semifinal features no shortage of offensive talent.

For Calanda, the combination of Sennrich, Bachofen, Adjovi and Smith has been difficult to contain. Smith’s three-touchdown performance against Badalona highlighted his ability to change a game in a hurry.

On the other side, Woodruff has developed strong chemistry with Nosow, Sema and Waszkiewicz, while Zéro gives the Warsaw offense another dangerous dimension.

A trip to the final at stake

Both teams enter Saturday with confidence, championship aspirations and recent playoff success.

The Broncos will have home-field advantage in Chur, but the Eagles arrive unbeaten and determined to avenge last year’s semifinal defeat. With two high-powered offenses and a place in the CEFL championship game on the line, this matchup has all the ingredients of a memorable semifinal.
